COMPLETE GUIDE FOR THE DERMA ROLLER SYSTEM

Thank you for shopping with us!

Congratulations! You have just come across a very important key to unlocking and restoring youth and beauty to your skin. And that is not all, as you can use Derma Roller System in the comfort of your own home for just a fraction of the cost of more expensive procedures.

For us, this is the year of the client. We are here to help you become a raving fan of the derma roller. This guide has been designed for you in mind so that you can easily understand the derma roller and with very little effort and get the very best results possible.

CAUTION! DO NOT USE YOUR DERMA ROLLER IF . . .

Here are a few notes of warning to ensure the process does not become counter-productive.

The purpose is to improve your skin condition and not worsen it so when it comes to derma rolling, the last thing you want to do is spread harmful, contagious skin conditions to other parts of your body.

Hence, if you are experiencing the following conditions — or even suspect so — then do NOT use the derma roller on or near those areas. Instead, consult your skin specialist before performing ANY derma rolling sessions. The conditions are:

• Active Acne
• Active Infections
• Blood Clotting Problems
• Chronic Skin Disorders
• Cold Sores
• Eczema
• Herpes
• Poor Healing
• Psoriasis
• Rosacea
• Severe Solar Keratosis
• Warts

UNFOLDING AGING SKIN

WHY YOUR SKIN MAY LOOK OLDER THAN YOUR FRIEND’S

You wake up on a cold morning, still feeling very heavy from slumber. You move straight into the bathroom for a wash to get ready for the day.

You realize you are a bit early today so you take your time in the bath. You walk over to the sink and splash your face with water. It has been a while since you’ve looked at your own reflection, and I mean really look.

You begin to see lines over your skin that you have never noticed before; on your forehead, around your eyes and some other parts of your body.

You turn aside to take a very good look at your body from head to toe. You see stretch marks appearing on your legs, stomach and upper parts of your arm. You even notice some cellulite appearing.

All of a sudden, you feel weak and appear much older than you really are.

It’s a hard pill to swallow as there is one thing that is inevitable in life, we all get older. Unfortunately, our body naturally gets older if you do not take drastic steps. As we grow older, we develop scars on our bodies, like tokens or badges of honor. Some of them have very bad memories attached to them while some are just unavoidable byproducts of growing up, like acne and wrinkles.

The main cause of these common problems is due to a lack of collagen, the main protein our skin is made up of. When the body does not produce enough collagen, it is not able to heal itself, leading to unwanted wrinkles, stretch marks and scars on your body.

COLLAGEN BASICS

Collagen is the main structural protein in our skin. It plays an important role in supporting and maintaining the body’s structure, especially on body tissues, ligaments, and most importantly, the skin.

Generally, our body can produce collagen on its own. That is evident as it helps us heal within a few days when we have minor cuts and bruises.

When an injury occurs to any part of the body, the brain automatically sends signals to the body’s injured area, commanding it to instantly take steps to heal. The body, following the instructions, has no option but to begin its process of producing and launching new collagen protein to:

1) Act as the body’s natural scaffolding; then
2) Build on itself over time to fill in the spaces.

This process would then continue till the brain recognizes that the injured area is healed and the healing process would be complete.

A COLLAGEN DEFICIT MAKES SKIN LOOK AND FEEL OLDER

Unfortunately, there are cases when the body does not just — or simply cannot — produce enough collagen and then the self-healing process slows down or even stops altogether.

Lower levels of collagen hinder the body’s ability to heal itself and when this happens, it leads to those things we do not like to see, like unwanted wrinkles, stretch marks and scars on your skin.

Now let us look at what could cause a halt in the body’s production of collagen. There are a lot of reasons, but here are the most common:

• Harmful free radicals have infiltrated and clogged the skin
• Collagen production channels are clogged by dead skin and collagen cells and as a result, the brain does not get the signal that there is a buildup of waste)
• Collagen production sites have been damaged

Normally, these experiences are all natural and will happen to every person at one point of their life, and when this happens, the person will lose his/her youth and vitality.

Basically, without collagen, our body’s ability to support itself is lost.

Did You Know?
If our bodies didn’t produce collagen, our bodies would literally fall apart. Collagen makes up 75 percent of the human body and is constantly regenerating.

REVERSE AGING: THE NEED TO GROW NEW COLLAGEN

Luckily for us, just when the body is getting naturally tired of producing this collagen, we can take steps to strengthen it and maintain or even increase our collagen-production levels to help fill in scars and stretch marks, wrinkles and even out skin tones where discoloration is occurring.

It is at this very point that Western research in anti-aging is starting to make headway. We have discussed the fact that when any part of the body is injured, the brain recognizes what is needed and goes into a “survival mode” to start the healing process.

Consider this, wouldn’t it be easier to fix a small puncture on a paper versus a large tear?

Yes, it would be much easier! All you would need do is place a tiny bit of tape on the puncture and no one would notice it.

A tear across the paper, on the other hand, would be very noticeable as it would require a huge amount of tape. Not only that, but the tear would still be seen through the tape and would most likely be uneven as well.

Apply this same principle to scars. More specifically, think about times when you have been poked by something small and sharp — like a needle or thorn. You likely bled and it hurt but do you see the scar right there now?

Chances are that you don’t see it anymore. Why? It’s because it was a much smaller, more manageable injury that your body could easily heal.

What if it was a large tear that took a very long time to heal? You would probably be left with a scar even after years of healing.

So, what is the solution?

Derma Rolling.

Derma rolling may be relatively new in the west, but the idea behind it all has been used in ancient China for more than a thousand years. The Chinese believed that puncturing the skin had a highly beneficial effects on a person’s life energy.

Minor injuries to the outermost layers skin can stimulate the growth and regeneration of new skin cells, which leads to smoother, more elastic skin.

DERMA ROLLING WORKS

DUE TO COLLAGEN’S NATURAL REACTION TO MICRO-TRAUMA

Through derma rolling, it has been discovered that such huge therapeutic trauma can be controlled, and the process of healing for mild trauma can be simulated even for natural trauma. The body does not know the difference. An injury is an injury.

Imagine hundreds and thousands of micro-wounds created by the derma roller that are nothing more than punctures. It is much more likely that those wounds are much smaller than those of a thorn but the effect is similar. In fact, because there are thousands of micro wounds over a single area, your body goes into even more of that needed “survival mode” to rush collagen to the area.

What’s more? It has been confirmed by research that the smaller the injury, the more your skin can focus on just that area and the more it can focus on doing a good job simply because there is a higher concentration of collagen and elastin production at that point.

The more collagen produced, the more dramatic the results will be as newer and suppler skin is regenerated, and those scars will begin to fill in by themselves.

Since the procedure is so efficient at repairing minimal damage, people that have gone through the process and see themselves before and after the treatment say their skin looks much younger and more vibrant. This procedure is known as ‘reverse aging’.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

RESULTS, PAIN, AND COMMON SKIN REACTIONS

Though you need to use needles to puncture your skin, which many people fear, derma rolling has been confirmed to be quite safe and very effective. Those tiny puncture wounds in the skin close up within hours of the procedure and leave no scars.

WATCH FOR RESULTS

It is very important for you to know beforehand what to expect after the procedure to be sure this actually works.

The first thing you will likely notice is that your skin will initially feel tight after the procedure, this can last through the month before it wears off, but don’t be scared, as it is just a lot of much-needed work happening in your skin at the collagen level.

While this may vary depending on the individual and other conditions, you will likely notice the following sequence of results: Skin feels slightly tighter > Skin begins to soften > Small portions of skin regrowth in scar tissue > Skin gets a bit thicker and smoother > Skin completely smoothens out.

Some will see these results slower or even quicker than others based on the individual's skin but the most important thing is that the above sequence will continue until the maximum result is seen and felt, not only by you but by others as well, after which maintenance may be necessary to keep skin looking well.

KEEP A PHOTO JOURNAL

Few things are as accurate as pictures, in fact, before and after pictures are the best because they do not lie. So, be sure to take a photo before you use your derma roller.

This is the best way to check up on your progress.

“THIS HURTS! I HATE NEEDLES.”

Needles are needles and there are two things to keep in mind:
1) These are needles, and
2) Needles are painful.

So, if you can’t deal with needles then derma rolling isn’t for you, but you will be missing out on a whole lot. Always remember, nothing good comes without a price!

It is surprising to see that most of customers who complain about the pain are usually the first ones to admit that the derma roller is working for them. Besides, if you are highly sensitive to pain, you can always use a numbing cream before derma rolling.

A numbing cream is a cream that makes you insensitive to pain. If you really need to use numbing cream, try finding one with lidocaine as its active ingredient. So, before performing your treatment, simply apply one of those creams over the area you wish to treat. Depending on the numbing cream you choose, you may need to leave it on for about 40-60 minutes before it takes full effect. Afterwards, wash it off thoroughly.

PINKISH OR RED SKIN

Your skin does become very sensitive after the treatment is done which should make you immediately notice redness spreading evenly across the treated areas of your skin. This is nothing to worry about, as it actually means your body is simply going through its natural healing process.

It will look and feel as if you had a sunburn but have it at the back of your mind that the reaction is quite common and safe. It is only those layers beneath the skin that have been spurred to action.

ACNE-LIKE BUMPS

This could be a two-way thing. First, the bumps may be proof that the derma roller is actually working as the impurities deep beneath your skin are being forced out of the skin by your body’s defensive mechanism. Much like the redness, this may also be a common reaction.

Also, it could be a sign that things did not go well, and that a few things that could have been avoided were not. These are:

  • Your hands and/or the area you treated were not completely clean before, during, or after the derma rolling session.
  • You prematurely applied makeup or sunscreen right after.

Once you take into consideration the above points, then there is nothing to worry about.

RASH

This actually is not common and has only ever happened with a few of our customers. Luckily, upon further investigation, it was diagnosed as an allergic reaction to the creams applied, either the numbing or soothing creams.

The skin, after all, is more exposed after going through a derma rolling session. Hence, you should be extra cautious about the ingredients used in those creams.

BLEEDING

With the invasive nature of needles, small drops of blood may appear during your session. This is expected and you should not be worried at all. Simply use a clean cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol and gently dab at those bleeding areas.

If light streams of bleeding occur then put pressure on the wound with a clean towel, elevate the area against the blood flow as much as you can. If bleeding continues, then go to an emergency room near you.

Disclaimer: While to our knowledge, we have never had such a thing happen with any of our customers; it is, however, the responsibility of the person using any of our derma roller products to do so with the utmost care. The Derma Roller System is not responsible for the misuse of any of our products.

As a reminder, if you have blood-clotting problems then you should consult your physician before using the derma roller.

SCRATCHES

Sometimes there are people reporting to have scratches across their skin and this may be due to one of these three things:

1)  The roller head has a needle that is bent or out of place.

2)  You are using too much pressure, causing the needles to drag through and not glide through which should be the case.

3)  You are not lifting the derma roller when changing rolling directions.

All you have got to do is be sure to follow the instructions below to use the Derma Roller System effectively.

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER AND PREPARE FOR

This device that has the potential to give youthful beauty can unfortunately also cause you serious harm — if it isn’t used and cleaned properly.

The derma roller creates small wounds in the skin which makes the skin open up to harmful free radicals. This simply means that those same micro punctures that stimulate our skin to produce enough collagen can also serve as gateways for bacteria and other pathogens that could ultimately harm us.

To safely use the Derma Roller System properly, we need to know which needle length to use, how to use the derma roller and how to properly care for the derma roller.

INSPECT NEEDLES BEFORE USING

Never forget this step. While the derma roller is being stored, it may have been roughly handled at some point and a needle may have been bent or pushed out of alignment. This will make it scratch and tear your skin and not just puncture it as it is meant to do. So check the needles before each session to make sure they are intact and ready for use.

WHAT ROLLER SIZE SHOULD I USE?

The needle length chosen is decided by the type of treatment being performed.

Please refer to our needle size guide to determine which needle size is right for you. Click here for a needle size guide.

USING YOUR DERMA ROLLER

FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO GET THE BEST RESULTS

STEP 1: CLEAN ROLLER HEAD

The easiest way to prevent contaminating germs from the roller head is by thoroughly washing it before and after you use it.

BEFORE USING YOUR DERMA ROLLER
  1. Wash with warm, running water for a few seconds.
  2. Disinfect with rubbing alcohol (70% Ethyl or isopropyl is best — hydrogen peroxide is a good alternative).

You can purchase these at your local pharmacy, or on Amazon.

  1. Submerge the derma roller head and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes. Using the included plastic casing, stand case upright and fill with alcohol solution until needles are completely submerged.

WARNING: It’s a popular method to use a spray bottle — filled with alcohol — to cleanse the derma roller. This is NOT an approved method to disinfect a derma roller. Please do not put yourself at risk.

SETTING DOWN YOUR ROLLER

While the derma roller is in use, you might need to put it down for a moment or two. Be sure you set it down on its back or side, just ensure the needles don’t touch the surface.

STEP 2: WASH FACE, BODY, AND/OR AREA YOU MEAN TO TREAT

With a quality soap, thoroughly wash the area(s) of your body that you wish to treat. Many customers find it easier to take a shower first, and then performing treatments with their derma roller after their body is dry.

STEP 3: ROLL DERMA ROLLER ACROSS SKIN

Now to actually use your derma roller. Force or pressure will not do the job, the needles themselves will do most of the work. All you need to do is roll it over the problematic areas and follow a few basic rolling tips.

  1. Stretch your skin with one hand and use the derma roller with the other.
  2. Roll the derma roller 4 to 5 times back and forth over the area you wish to treat.
  3. Roll in the following directions for best results: vertically, horizontally, then both diagonal directions (4 to 5 rolls in each direction).
  4. Briefly lift the roller off the skin before rolling in a different direction (no matter how slight the change). Ignoring to do so will result in the needles catching, scratching or tearing at your skin which would defeat the very essence of the procedure.
  5. Use enough pressure to penetrate the top layer of skin but be careful not to use too much force. Pay close attention and you will know if you are using enough pressure when you hear a light popping noise as each needle punctures your skin.
ONLY TOUCH WITH CLEAN HANDS

For about two hours after your session, if possible, avoid touching your skin at all costs. If you must, only do so with clean hands. Touching your now exposed and delicate skin with dirty hands is a sure way to irritate your skin and get a rash or infection.

STEP 4: USE A QUALITY SKINCARE SERUM, LOTION, OR OIL

To complete the treatment and make it really effective, apply a quality skincare serum, cream, lotion, or mask (you can also try our popular collagen cream by clicking here). When the derma roller passes over your skin, thousands of micro wounds act as channels through the outermost dermal layer of the skin.

With this, your skin is ready to absorb 80 percent more vitamins, minerals and other helpful oils. As a result, your body receives far more benefits from the skincare products than it could have ever received on its own.

Below you will find a list of skin conditions that you may be looking to target, products to help increase the efficiency of the treatments and the appropriate time to apply each of them.

STEP 5: CLEAN UP AND WASH

When you are finally ready to clean up, wash your skin with cold water and ensure you do a gentle facial and/or body wash. Do NOT use any harsh soap when washing the treated area for the next 2-3 days.

To clean, repeat “Step 2: Wash Face, Body, AND/OR Area You Mean To Treat” and be sure to rinse your derma roller and plastic casings with hot water before soaking in alcohol as instructed in Step 2.

STEP 6: IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO AFTER — OTHERS TO AVOID

Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Preventing dry-out and locking in moisture in your skin will help restore balance and give maximum results during the healing phase. A quality moisturizer like Argan Oil or Hyaluronic Acid will be sufficient.

Be sure as well to drink plenty of water and other healthy beverages.

Use Sunblock to protect your skin from Ultra-Violet Rays

The sun releases some harmful free radicals, so stay away from direct exposure to the sun for at least a few days, but if you must go out after derma rolling, be sure to use a quality UVA/UVB sunscreen (at least 30SPF — the higher the SPF the better).

Minimize Makeup Use

You should not wear makeup immediately after the procedure. You should wait till the next day to start using makeup. Be sure to stay away from cosmetic products that contain alpha hydroxyl acids. Retinol products should only be used the day after a derma rolling session, never immediately after as it may cause skin irritation.

Only Touch With Clean Hands

Try to wait at least two hours after performing treatments before touching your skin. If you must touch your skin, only do so with clean hands. Touching your now exposed skin with dirty hands will increase the risk of your skin getting a rash or infection.

WHEN TO USE AND HOW OFTEN

THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL DERMA ROLLING IS PATIENCE

Many people, especially new users, believe that the more often they undergo the procedure, the better. This is the exact opposite of what really happens.

Using the derma roller once per day or even twice daily is far too often if your needle length is 1.0mm or greater. Not only will this cause scarring on your skin, but you likely won’t get positive results.

HOW OFTEN FOR BEST RESULTS?

On the average, your skin takes about 3 to 4 weeks to repair and rebuild. Undergoing the process again before the skin is healed interrupts the whole healing process and makes the derma roller counter-productive. The frequency of your treatments depends on the needle length of your derma roller.

You can safely use the following needle lengths within their corresponding time frames:

Needle Length

Frequency

0.5 mm

Up to Five Times per Week

1.0 mm to 1.5 mm

Once Every Three to Four Weeks

2.0 mm to 2.5 mm

Once Every Four to Five Weeks

Make sure you give your skin time to recover between sessions. This is only a guide and each individual's skin is different, so only perform treatments when your skin feels healed and ready.

Rule of thumb

Only use your derma roller when your skin feels healed. If it is tender, red, pink, or showing any signs of treatment, then do not use until those signs disappear and your skin feels ready.
